South Africa comes to Facebook
For those who have experienced South Africa and want to share their personal memories with like-minded individuals, the opportunity to do so is now available on the world’s number one social networking site, Facebook.
With eight million active Facebook users in the UK, the new My South Africa group will invite people to share images, videos and stories of South Africa with other fans of the country.
The creation of this Facebook group follows the launch earlier this year of My South African Feast – South African Tourism’s campaign that positions the country as a destination that offers a ‘feast’ of experiences.
The campaign focuses on food and drink as a way of highlighting various areas of the country that offer activities and traditional cultures. Recipes from each of the regions are available to members of the My South Africa group so users may bring some South African flavour into their own homes.
Facebook members will be able to post their personal experiences of South Africa on to the page. Other users will be able to interact with the content by commenting or indeed sharing their own experiences with the group. There will also be polls and discussion boards for the group members to interact with.
Lebohang Mokhesi, UK Country Manager for South Africa Tourism, said: “Travellers are renowned for wanting to meet and share their experiences with similar individuals. This is why we have expanded our influence into the world of Facebook so people have the opportunity to use a common space for this.”
