Southwest may be planning transatlantic entry

Monday, 09 Jun, 2025 0

Southwest Airlines is reportedly eyeing up possible transatlantic services for the first time.

According to media speculation, Reykjavík, Iceland could be the first destination.

The airline has confirmed any plans yet.

However, Southwest recently inked a codeshare partnership with Icelandair and it is comfortably in range for its current Boeing single aisle fleet.

It would enable Southwest to market tickets to European cities via Icelandair.

The airline itself doesn’t have an established business class product or full meal service to complete with major airlines on mainland Europe routes.

Mainland Europe is also a highly competitive market that has seen numerous failures in the low-cost segment.
