Spate of hotel ATM robberies
Houston hotels are being hit with a spate of ATM robberies with Marriott hotels in the city now being targeted.
In the latest late-night heist, an ATM was removed by a gang of at least four masked men at a Marriott property near the George Bush Intercontinental Airport, the third Marriott hotel in as many nights to be hit.
Entire ATMs have been swiped at five hotels across the city in less than a week.
No hotel employees or guests have been attacked in any of the robberies but the in the latest, a hotel valet backed down after one of the raiders flashed a machete.
All the ATMs were situated in hotel lobbies and were not bolted down, said Houston police robbery division Lt. Cathy Richards.
The cash machines were then simply carried out to waiting vehicles.
Previously, a Marriott near the Galleria was hit late Tuesday after a security guard was threatened and the following night up to eight masked men raided a Courtyard by Marriott in west Houston.
Police believe a single gang is responsible for all the raids.
