Spirit Airlines tops on-time performance rankings
In a turnaround that few people expected, the one-time most hated airline in America is now currently best for on-time performance.
It also has the second lowest cancelation rate according to Department of Transportation data.
It said 89% of Spirit flights arrived on time, the first time it has topped the rankings.
Just a few years ago, the Florida based carrier was consistently bottom and widely derided for its nickel and diming approach to customer service.
It had the worst on-time performance for 11 months in a row in 2016.
It has now revamped its scheduling to improve performance and react better to weather delays it said.
"We got a little bit smarter about how we scheduled," said vice president Greg Christopher.
"We’ve been evolving over the last couple of years to transform out airline so I’m really excited for our team to get a No. 1. Going back three or four years ago, it was a different story."
