Starwood Hotels & Resorts is planning to introduce a sixth Sheraton hotel in Mexico.
The company has signed an agreement with developer Inmobiliaria Punta Tormentos to develop the beachfront resort in Coxumel, which will have 120 rooms, two pools, three restaurants and a lobby bar, according to a Starwood release.
Other amenities include a fitness center, spa and 8,500 square feet of meeting space.
"Sheraton Cozumel Resort, a terrific addition to the brand’s global resorts portfolio, will serve as a gathering place for travelers in one of Mexico’s most sought-after leisure destinations," said Jorge Giannattasio, senior vice president and chief of operations for Starwood Latin America and the Caribbean.
"As the second Starwood property in Cozumel, the resort further strengthens the company’s presence in Mexico, one of the most attractive tourism markets in the Americas.
The hotel will join Starwood’s Westin-branded resort which is slated to open in Cozumel next year.
The Sheraton Cozumel Resort is expected to open for business in early 2018, Starwood said.
