STI to launch EcoCertification program globally and open London office
Sustainable Travel International – the US Not-for-Profit Organisation – have announced that they are to launch their Sustainable Tourism EcoCertification program (STEP) globally in the first quarter of 2007. Further, the US NGO will be offering a new TravelGreen™ initiative for hoteliers. They are also in the process of launching the first industry specific, web-based custom carbon calculator program with the likes of the World Wildlife Fund, Ben & Jerry’s, G.A.P. Adventures and other leadership organizations. The Sustainable Travel International London office, Travelmole understands, will be open by this summer.
STI have been offering Carbon Offsets in collaboration with the Swiss-based MyClimate and the Bonneville Environmental Foundation. They pioneered web-based travel-specific custom carbon calculaters.
Says Brian Mullis, STI President “This is only the beginning. Through collaboration and with backing from our supports, members and sponsors, we remain focused on our primary goal – to mainstream the concept of sustainable tourism development within the travel and tourism industry.”
