Strike forces Alitalia to cancel dozens of flights today and tomorrow
Alitalia has been forced to cancel dozens of flights today and a further two dozen flights due to take off early tomorrow morning due to an air traffic control strike in Italy.
Today’s disruption will hit flights to and from London Heathrow and London City Airport as well as flights between Italy and other destinations.
Tomorrow’s early morning flight from Heathrow to Milan, flight AZ229, has also been cancelled.
However, Alitalia said it will operate flights as scheduled between 7am an 10am and 6pm to 9pm today and during other times it is putting larger aircraft on some routes. Air traffic controllers are due to walkout from midday to 4pm.
BA and easyJet have told passengers to check their websites for the latest information.
BA said: "We recognise the uncertainty that the strike may be causing customers and have introduced flexible rebooking options."
EasyJet said it expects ‘some disruption’.
The strike had been planned to last for 24 hours, but Italian authorities said the length of action was deemed unconstitutional.
