Strike to bring Tube to standstill this evening
A 24-hour strike by London Underground workers is due to start this evening, causing problems for tourists in the capital and those trying to travel to and from London airports.
Tube workers will walk out at 18:30 hours today and there will be no London Underground services operating at all tomorrow.
It is the second 24-hour stoppage this summer and comes as talks to resolve a dispute between unions and London Underground broke down.
All four main Tube workers’ unions are backing the industrial action, prompted by concerns over the London Mayor Boris Johnson’s plan to introduce a new night service.
Transport for London said some 250 extra buses will be laid on during the strike and extra river services will also run during peak hours.
