Strike to hit French trips today
France: Air, train and road travel could all be affected by industrial action
Travellers heading for France today are likely to face serious travel disruption as a result of a strike by French workers.
Airlines flying in and out of France have cancelled hundreds of flights, while train, bus and ferry services are also expected to be seriously impeded. However, Eurotunnel services and Eurostar services to Paris and Brussels are not likely to be affected. The strike is in response to plans by the French government to change pension rules and retirement benefits for workers.
British Airways is expecting to operate around 10 per cent of flights to France, while other carriers are also having to cancel many flights. Passengers will be accommodated on to other flights where possible, and will be offered a re-booking or a refund.
The same is true with ferry services; P&O said services between Dover and Calais are likely to be affected as Calais will be closed for most of the day. Once again, passengers will be offered a refund or travel on a different day.
