Struggling OzJet cuts its losses and quits
PERTH – OzJet Airlines has confirmed its decision to suspend operating its 737 fleet ex-Perth.
A spokesperson for the airline said the primary reason for OzJet Airlines to suspend the operation of its 737 fleet was due to its not having been able to add cargo aircraft to its CASA air operator’s agreement.
The resultant lack of revenue has resulted in a significant impact on the airline’s overall business plan.
OzJet Airlines offered flights from Peth to Derby and Bali.
The spokesperson said subsequent monies owed from one of the airline’s primary customers, IndoJet, had further exacerbated the situation and as a result OzJet Airlines has now sub-contracted Alliance Airlines to continue operating its Perth-Derby route and other general charter obligations.
This has in effect immediately and substantially reduced OzJet’s overhead expenses.
Responding to comments made by Perth Airport over the airline’s failure to pay airport charges, the spokesperson said while there were monies outstanding, these had been substantially reduced in recent times following the purchase of the airline from its previous owner European Aviation in May 2008.
