Summer travel cost sometimes lower: Travelocity

Tuesday, 19 Aug, 2008 0

The assumption is that travel costs more this year, but when Travelocity looked at how much travelers are paying for their summer vacations, the result was a surprise: not much more than last year and sometimes even less.

Using airfare and hotel data for trips by consumers this July compared to July of 2007, Travelocity identified 14 major US cities where the price difference of a vacation that included a flight and five-night hotel stay was less than $50.

Fourteen cities with less than a $50 price difference included:

ü       Atlanta: $13.16 more

ü       Austin: $14.32 more

ü       Boston: $26.28 more

ü       Charleston: $43.39 more

ü       Chicago: -$39.08 less; Denver: $30.16 more

ü       Las Vegas: $3.68 more

ü       Los Angeles: $34.53 more

ü       Orlando: $20.81 more; San Diego: $0.88 more

ü       San Francisco: $43.05 more

ü       Seattle: $6.55 more

ü       And South Florida: -$8.92 less

Some cities did see a more significant increase in ADR (average daily rate) in July 2008 over the year prior. New York City was one popular destination that didn’t make the $50-or-less criteria set forth by Travelocity. Instead, it saw an increase of approximately $132.
