Summer vacations: The long and the short of it
Value-seeking travelers this summer are extending their vacations, while at the same time the traditional two-week honeymoon is being eclipsed by the mini-moon.
Expedia.com’s summer issue of the Expedia Travel Trendwatch found an “abundance of values for travelers this summer in destinations around the globe.”
"Summer vacations have never been more affordable," said Tim MacDonald, general manager of Expedia.com. "With year-over-year price reductions on flights, hotels and vacation packages in destinations worldwide, many Expedia customers are taking advantage of these values by extending the length of their vacations."
The complete Expedia Travel Trendwatch can be found at www.expedia.com/tips.
On the other hand, forget the traditional two week honeymoon. Recession busting “minimoons” are the latest hit with newlyweds, according to Hotels.com.
These are trips of less than two weeks with ”cash-conscious newlyweds keeping an eye on their budgets.”
It is not only the length of stay that is changing. The research also found couples are flexible about when they leave for their honeymoon. While 57% of those questioned plan to head off straight after their wedding, over a quarter (28%) are considering waiting for a few weeks or months after the wedding before they go away.
