Sydney connects with a city of 30 million
Sichuan Airlines will launch flights from Chongqing to Sydney in December, marking the first time a carrier has offered a direct link between the two cities.
The route will be served twice weekly with an A330-200.
Chongqing is a major manufacturing centre, transportation hub and one of China’s emerging megacities. With around 30 million residents, the city has a greater population than Australia.
Chinese passengers are Sydney airport’s fastest growing passenger group, said Sydney Airport CEO Kerrie Mather.
Sichuan Airlines began serving Melbourne from Chengdu earlier this year.
