Talks continue over BA job cuts at Gatwick

Sunday, 20 Jul, 2012 0

British Airways is pushing ahead with plans to outsource its Gatwick ramp operations in October, ready for the start of the winter season.

Silla Maizey, BA’s newly appointed managing director Gatwick (pictured here), said she hoped most of the 400 staff affected would transfer to the outsourced company.

She confirmed that 170 jobs are still being cut in front of house operations.

"With all the changes in technology and the need to be more cost effective, we are downsizing," said Maizey.

"We are working very constructively with the trade unions."

She said the move would put BA in a better position to grow its Gatwick operation, which now has its own dedicated management team focussed on development.

Maizey said the route network from Gatwick would continue to be "tweaked" to meet customer demand, but refused to be drawn on specific plans.
