Tassie Operators not happy
Tasmanian tourism operators are asking why hundreds of thousands of dollars pumped into tourism marketing in Tasmania” doesn’t appear to be working, saying that Tasmanian tourism was marketed too heavily on too few drawcard destinations like Strahan and Hobart.
It is reported that arrivals at coastal airports have slumped and TT-Line has cut 20 Melbourne to Devonport sailings from the peak tourist period between December and March.
Local Tourism Officials said that terrorist attacks and worldwide health scares had led to a global tourism downturn, not just in Tasmania, that was now having an impact.
A special meeting of The Cradle Coast Authority will be held on Tuesday in Hobart with Tourism Tasmania’s destination development and marketing division to discuss the reduced tourist numbers and to see what can be done to halt a dramatic slide in tourist arrivals in the North-West of the State.
