Taxes may cost more than $9 air fares to Caribbean

Monday, 03 Nov, 2005 0

Spirit Airlines announced its $9 one way fares to the Caribbean.

The fares are selectivity available; they must be booked on spiritair.com by 11:59PM on 7, November, through 14, December.

Travel dates are also restricted.

In addition, taxes and fees are separate; these could exceed the $18 fare.

Some of the routes offering the rate are Detroit-Kingston, Jamaica, and New York (LaGuardia) Nassau, the Bahamas.

The sale is intended to promote the airline’s new flights to the Caribbean.

Ben Baldanza, president of Spirit, says its Web site has been deluged with calls about the sale.

“I’m going to have thousands of people saying they got a $9 fare to Jamaica,” he said.
