Thai budget airline gets go-ahead for international flights
Low-cost carrier Thai AirAsia X has received an Air Operator’s Certificate meaning it can now apply for permission to launch international flights from Bangkok.
The airline will lease two Airbus A330-300s from a subsidiary of its parent company, the AirAsia group, for its first year.
A launch date for budget flights from Bangkok has not yet been announced and it might be delayed until the political situation in Thailand settles down.
Azran Osman-Rani, CEO of AirAsia X, said Thai AirAsia X will offer connecting services with Thai AirAsia’s short-haul domestic and regional network.
"The establishment of our Thai hub will see the beginning of AirAsia X’s strategic multi hub plan turn into reality," he added.
Along with Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok, AirAsia X is also planning a hub in Bali.
