Thailand ponders World Expo bid
Thailand is believed to be reassessing its bid to host the World Expo in 2020.
Expo inspectors recently paid a five-day visit to the proposed Expo site in Ayutthaya.
This week Thongchai Sridama, acting president of the Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), a public agency leading the bidding, told The Nation newspaper it was most likely Thailand would not be considered as a qualified candidate to win the bidding.
The agency said Dubai seemed to have emerged as the potential winner because the nation had spent millions of dollars to organise its bid, as well as building an underground train to better connect with the venue. It also had strong support from China.
The event is expected to attract 10 million visitors.
