Thailand tells Youtube: You go
BANGKOK: Thailand’s military-led government has blocked the popular website YouTube over a musical video that mocks revered King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
Authorities blocked YouTube because of a 20-second musical slideshow in which coloured images are drawn onto the King’s face.
Military leaders said the move is preventative as such media could be used to promote civil tensions.
Last week a Swiss national was jailed for 10 years in Chiang Mai after pleading guilty to charges of insulting the Thai king.
In another crackdown by the government, Thai hoteliers are also concerned about strict new drinking laws. Restrictions will be introduced on the time and place that many establishments can sell alcohol.
