The dangers of travel
Italy: Skiers could be charged with manslaughter after avalanche
A British-born snowboarder has died in an avalanche in the Italian Alps – and authorities in the resort say his friends could face manslaughter charges for causing the disaster. Qadir Nazim was killed by the avalanche in the resort of Val Senales after he and three fellow skiers reportedly ignored avalanche warnings; officials are saying the group may well have caused the avalanche themselves. Meanwhile, in Australia, the dangers of swimming in the wrong place have been brought home with the news that an 84-year-old man has been killed by a shark. The attack took place in a lake connected to the sea by a series of locks and canals in Queensland. The bull shark – considered to be the most dangerous breed of all – is thought to have swum through the locks from the sea before attacking the man and biting off his legs.
