The early bird avoids the dreaded middle seat

Thursday, 03 Sep, 2009 0

In still another effort to create “incremental revenue opportunities,” Dallas-based Southwest Airlines announced that starting this week they will allow passengers to board flights before general check-in for a $10 fee.

Flyers in EarlyBird Check-in can board after premium passengers that include Select and Rapid Rewards A-List, the airline says. The $10 one way gets boarders ahead of women with children.

So far at least, Southwest has refused to charge passenger for bags, unlike most other major air lines.

The offering allows passengers to select seats and secure overhead bin space, said Southwest. The airline generally does not assign seats.
