Third Briton drowns at Blue Lagoon

Tourists have been warned of the dangers of swimming at a popular Malta beauty spot after the third Briton drowned in a month.

A 59-year-old man became the latest victim after getting into difficulty in rough water at the Blue Lagoon off the coast of Comino island.

He had allegedly ignored double red flag warnings not to swim in the area. His body was pulled from the water by lifeguards on Sunday afternoon after swimmers reported seeing him motionless in the water.

Only a month ago, two other British men, both 35 years old, drowned at the Blue Lagoon after getting into difficulty in rough seas.

The Red Cross head lifeguard Robert Brincau urged swimmers to take notice of the warnings and not enter the water when double red flags were raised.
