Thomas Cook checks out ‘grey labour resource’
Thomas Cook is reportedly the latest company to target older workers, launching a scheme to attract the “grey labour resource”.
According to the online news service Ananova, Thomas Cook is offering flexible working schemes for older people, and is also trying to attract mothers who want to return to work. The company reportedly has 1,000 vacancies because of a retail expansion.
The company’s chief executive Manny Fontenla-Novoa reportedly said Thomas Cook is to launch a new campaign, entitled Welcome Back, “for people who left the travel industry during the downturn following the 11 September attacks”.
He is quoted as saying: “It is no secret that the travel industry has had a torrid time since 11 September but this recruitment drive shows how confident we now are in the business. Among our top sellers, 20% work part time and 32% are over 50. That is why we are looking to offer further opportunities to them.”
As reported last month by News From Abroad, First Choice Holidays has also recently launched a campaign to attract older workers.
