Time to re-think Dubai as a family destination

We recently ran “The Mole Poll” question asking: "Would you sell Dubai for a family holiday?"

Although the results were close, slightly more of you answered ‘no’. If you are one of those that said ‘no’ you might be missing an opportunity.

Dubai is only a six to seven hour flight from the UK and with around 18 direct flights a day from six regional airports, access couldn’t be easier. Dubai is safe, has clean sandy beaches and shallow waters with guaranteed sunshine. Also, whichever hotel you choose, you know that in Dubai the quality and service will be world-class and you will receive a very warm welcome. A good start for any family.

Many of Dubai’s hotels are perfect for the family. Atlantis, The Palm and Jumeirah Beach Hotel may be the first to spring to mind but many of Dubai’s hotels, such as the Westin or Ritz Carlton also have superb children’s facilities. Kids clubs, dedicated children’s pools, babysitting facilities, interconnecting rooms and kids’ menus are commonplace throughout the emirate.

But more than that, the list of family attractions in Dubai gathers pace and no family will be short of things to do.

Wild Wadi and Aquaventure water parks; Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, SEGA Republic, KidZania and Ski Dubai to name a few. Of course children will also have loads of fun if they head up Burj Khalifa – the world’s tallest tower, journey out into the desert for a jeep safari or a camel ride, indulge in one of countless watersports, or even have a go at indoor skydiving. The choices for kids of all ages are almost limitless.

And finally, there is peace of mind for any family worried about the costs as there are some great family deals to be had. For example, this summer, kids fly, sleep, eat and play FREE in Dubai. See www.dubaiupdate.co.uk/kidsgofree.html for more information.

Even outside of this period, many hotels offer half board upgrades, and the range of affordable family dining options at places such as the Walk at Jumeirah Beach Residence or Dubai Mall is constantly expanding.

Dubai Tourism did some online testing in 2009 and the interest in Dubai from the family market was stronger than any other market segment.

So if you haven’t yet considered selling Dubai as a family destination before, then maybe its time for a re-think.
