Tourism Australia appoints new Head of Tourism Events Australia
Tourism Australia Managing Director, Mr Geoff Buckley announced yesterday that well known tourism industry leader and icon, Joyce DiMascio had been appointed to head up the organisation’s dedicated business events unit, Tourism Events Australia.
Joyce who will join Tourism Australia next month has more than 20 years of experience in the tourism industry and is currently the National Tourism and Major Events Manager for the Tourism and Transport Forum (TTF) Australia.
In her current role at TTF Australia Joyce has been responsible for leading the organisation’s tourism business, including the major and business events policy development advocacy and prior to this was Director of Marketing Communications for Tourism New South Wales, responsible for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games program.
She has also provided marketing communications consultancy services to the Australian Tourist Commission, Australian Tourism Export Council and Orient-Express Hotels Australia, and was formerly Public Affairs Manager for East-West Airlines.
Geoff Buckley said that Tourism Australia was delighted to announce the appointment of a high calibre industry leader to this important business events role, adding, “It is great news to have someone of Joyce’s calibre on board. Joyce has both the strategic and operational skills to take Tourism Australia’s activities in the business events sector forward”.
“The business events sector is very important to Australia and is worth about $17.3 billion per annum. While international business accounts for around $2 billion of this, there are real opportunities for Australia to grow its share of the global business events market.”
“Australia has enormous potential as a destination for corporate meetings and incentives and as the Manager of Tourism Events Australia, Joyce will be responsible for working closely with key stakeholders to strategically position Tourism Australia’s role in the sector and to ensure we are deriving the best returns on our investment.”
Geoff also said that today’s announcement follows the launch last month of Tourism Australia’s global business events campaign, which aims to re-energise Australia’s image as a destination for corporate meetings and incentives, with the highly targeted campaign using state of the art technology to reach up to 1,000 of the key decision makers in major source markets around the world.
The Mole congratulates Joyce sincerely on her appointment.
