Two holidaymakers got a nasty shock when opening up the boot of their rental car to find a python slithering over their bags.
The two women had just arrived at their Maine hotel after picking up the car from Boston Logan Airport, when the slippery reptile was discovered in the back.
The snake was removed by police officers and handed over to the Maine Warden Service which identified the snake as a two-feet long non-poisonous ball python.
The snake was then transferred to an animal rehabilitation center which cares for ‘unwanted exotics’.
"I’ll probably hold onto it in case someone shows up looking for it," said Josh Sparks who runs the Sparks’ Ark animal center.
Sparks added that the ball python was "just a baby" at six months old or less.
It is unclear how the snake got into the boot of the rental car.
