Tourists urged to carry euros as Greek banks re-open
Tourists to Greece have been urged to continue taking euros in cash on holiday despite banks re-opening today.
The Greek government announced that banking services would be limited with customers using cards issued by Greek banks only being able to withdraw €60 per day.
However, with UK cards visitors can withdraw up to the daily limit imposed by the Greek banking system (usually €600), or the daily limit imposed by card issuer – whichever is the lower amount, advised the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
The FCO said: "While withdrawals are limited, make sure you take enough euros in cash to cover the duration of your stay, emergencies, unforeseen circumstances and any unexpected delays.
"There is no guarantee that you’ll be able to exchange sterling for euros in Greece. There are no restrictions on taking unspent euros out of Greece at the end of your stay."
