Travel company accused of swindling Oprah Fans
The head of a suburban Washington, DC travel business has been indicted for theft charges after allegedly stealing money from elderly fans of talk show host Oprah Winfry.
Prosecutors say Terrance M. Hawkins, charged $500 a person for a bus trip from Chicago to Washington and tickets to the show. The trips never happened.
His business was Royal Travel and Royal Stages Travel Group. Investigators say there were up to 70 victims bilked out of $35,000.
