Travel groups call for end of Covid curbs
US travel trade groups are again pushing the Biden Administration to halt all Covid-19 restrictions to help the tourism recovery.
They called for action as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released new guidelines that remove many Covid curbs.
The U.S. Travel Association, American Hotel and Lodging Association, Airlines for America and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce want an end to the federal mask mandate, end pre-departure testing for fully vaccinated arrivals, and stop issuing ‘avoid Trave’ advisories and travel bans.
“This industry remains ready to assist the Biden administration in advancing these necessary endemic-era policies and restoring the US travel economy,” it said in a letter to the White House.
“We encourage the administration to immediately remove travel requirements that no longer fit with the current environment and to set clear timelines and metrics for when others will be lifted.”
The groups say business travel spending is 50% below 2019 and international travel spending declined 78% compared to 2019.
