Travel industry start-up threatens to erode agents’ profits
A new travel industry start-up is threatening to erode travel agents’ and tour operators’ commission by making it easier for travellers to book excursions direct with local suppliers.
TravelLocal.com claims to be able to connect customers with local travel companies in 35 destinations around the world. It aims to cover 80 destination in the next six months.
The Bristol-based firm, which was founded by travel industry colleagues Tom Stapleton and Huw Owen in 2012 and launched a new online booking platform this week, says it has already built up a global customer base, having attracted bookings from clients in 13 countries.
