Travel recruitment hits two-year high
Travel companies had more vacancies in January than at any time in the past two years, according to one recruitment consultant.
C&M Recruitment Consultancy and sister firm Chisholm & Moore Executive Recruitment said vacancies were up 13% compared to December, however their Travel Salary Index only measures jobs they advertise, not the whole of the market.
Nevertheless, the firms’ sales director Barbara Kolosinska said: "This really is a fantastic start to the year. To see so many travel companies looking to take on new staff is great news for the entire industry and bodes well for the year ahead."
On a less impressive note, average travel salaries were down almost 10% year on year. Kolosinska said this was due to a large number of higher-paid executive roles pushing average salaries higher than normal at the start of last year.
Last month, salaries were 3.4% higher than in December. "The first few months of the year are always a busy time in the recruitment sector with lots of candidates and companies making plans for the year ahead, so it’s very encouraging to see that many travel firms are already looking to increase their salaries in order to get the best recruits for their team," added Kolosinska.
