Thai tourist chiefs have urged the UK trade not to be put off sending travellers to the country despite the on-going political conflict and violence in the capital Bangkok.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand said it recommended travellers change their itinerary and extend their stay at their onward destination

“TAT requests the support of their trade partners to discourage cancellations and encourage their passenger’s to travel to Thailand, amending itineraries to avoid the city of Bangkok and travelling onwards to their next destination in Thailand,” the authority said.

“It should be stressed that foreigners have not been targeted in the on-going political conflict. However, visitors and tourists are advised to be vigilant, follow news developments, exercise extra caution and avoid areas near the UDD rally site and areas where demonstrators gather.”

People who are due to fly to Thailand in the coming days are encouraged to travel but for those who plan to stay in Bangkok we recommend they change their itinerary and extend their stay at their onward destination such as Phuket, Chiang Mai of Koh Samui instead, TAT said.

“The Thai travel and tourism industry continues to operate as normal across the rest of the country, popular resorts such as Chiang Mai, Phuket, Hua Hin, Koh Samui, Krabi are ready to welcome British holidaymakers.”
