Travelling responsibly in Africa
By choosing to travel with an ecotourism company which engages positively with neighbouring communities and practices effective wildlife-conservation it is possible to experience the safari of a lifetime, while also making a real contribution to tomorrow. CC Africa is such a company.
Empowering communities through conservation
It is crucial that local communities benefit from tourism in meaningful and sustainable ways while retaining their own values and culture. CC Africa, together with Africa Foundation, achieves this through consultative interaction with these communities.
Over much of Africa, national parks and wildlife reserves were created by colonial administrations which paid little heed to the rights of indigenous peoples. In many cases, this led to a disconnection between the people and the wildlife resources which they had formerly depended upon, but were subsequently prevented from utilising.
Today it is the challenge of conservationists to reconnect Africa’s peoples with the wildlife and landscapes in which their ancestors were integrated. Responsible safaris which adhere to the principles of ecotourism to provide local communities with tangible benefits from lodge operators and associated business opportunities, are perhaps the most effective way of achieving this goal.
“While our Africa portfolio continues to exceed expectations, we are also delighted to be extending our business model to India with wildlife lodges opening there from October 2006. It is the extraordinary and talented people, both employees and partners, who bring true magic to our guests and all stakeholders in CC Africa.
Much of the inspiration at CC Africa has come from CC Africans themselves. People are the essence of today’s safari business and many valued CC Africans have been with the company since day one and inspire and guide me on so many issues. They have taught us all to look beyond normal first-world business solutions and find African solutions.
With 2500 employees spanning 8 African countries, CC Africa plays a small but meaningful role in protecting the biodiversity of hundreds of thousands of hectares of wilderness land. This makes all of us at CC Africa unbelievably proud of what we do each day. Thank you for helping us to make a genuine and lasting difference.”
Steve Fitzgerald, CEO, CC Africa
