Trump hotel guest arrested after tip-off about firearms threat

A ‘heavily armed’ guest staying at the Trump International Hotel in Washington DC was arrested with police saying it had ‘averted a potential disaster’.

Bryan Moles, a doctor from Edinboro, Pennsylvania, had just checked in to the Trump Hotel, just blocks away from the White House, before he was taken into custody by DC police and the Secret Service.

Authorities were alerted after a tip to Pennsylvania State Police saying Moles was traveling to DC with firearms and ammunition.

Police found a handgun, a high powered assault rifle and 90 rounds of ammunition in his car, and was then promptly arrested.

The tipster said he had made unspecified threats.

"I was very concerned about this circumstance and I believe the officers and our federal partners, and in particular the tipster, averted a potential disaster here in our nation’s capital," said metropolitan police department chief Peter Newsham.

Moles will be charged with possessing a pistol and ammunition without a permit.

"We’re going to do a thorough examination if we can get the motive as to why this guy was coming to the District of Columbia armed with these weapons," Secret Service agent Mike Ball said.
