Demonstrators have taken to the streets of several major US cities to protest against the election of Donald Trump as the next President.
In New York. 15 people were arrested as thousands marched on Trump Tower, protesting against his policies on immigration, gay rights and women’s rights.
In Los Angeles. the main freeway was shut down due to a mass anti-Trump rally, while in Portland, Oregon, a highway was also blocked by protestors.
In Chicago protestors blocked the entrance to Trump Tower chanting "No Trump, No KKK, No Fascists USA".
In Washington DC, there was a candlelit vigil and other, mainly peaceful, demonstrations have taken place in Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Seattle.
However, Brand USA spokeswoman Anne Madison said she didn’t believe the election result would affect travel from the UK to the US.
Talking of the election result and results of an industry survey which suggested people would be reluctant to travel to a US led by Trump she said: "We are adopting the British phrase ‘keep calm and carry on’. We don’t think the predictions of a decline in interest in travel to the US are realistic as there is such a strong affinity between the UK and the United States."
Regarding Trump’s statement that he will ban on Muslims, which appears to have been removed from his official website since the election, Madison said: "We don’t even pay attention to those remarks. We have done so much to make the US a much more welcoming destination, our entry policy is very welcoming, it is open and it’s available for people to see on line.
"The US will continue to be a very welcoming destination because travel and tourism is so important to our economy."
