TSA PreCheck passes two million enrolments

Tuesday, 14 Jan, 2016 0
The Transportation Security Administration has announced two million travelers have now enrolled in the TSA PreCheck program.

First implemented in 2011, participants pay an $85 application fee for five years of expedited screening at the nation’s airports.

"We are pleased to announce this milestone as the continued growth of the trusted traveler population allows us to better focus our resources on high-risk, unknown passengers, while facilitating travel for low-risk individuals," TSA Administrator Peter Neffenger said.

"We look forward to the continued expansion of TSA PreCheck as we continue our drive towards having more travelers directly enrolled in trusted traveler programs."

These low-risk passengers are assigned a ‘known traveler number’ enabling them to use fast track security screening lanes at the airport.

PreCheck approved travelers are not required to remove shoes, light jackets or belts, and do not have to take out liquids or laptops from bags.

The program is available at about 150 airports, including all major international hubs and is managed by MorphoTrust, a US subsidiary of French identity firm Morpho.

MorphoTrust has 355 ‘IdentoGO Centers’ where Pre-check applications are processed.
