TTM to get bigger budget in 2007

The Tourism Authority of Thailand is pressing ahead with arrangements for Thailand Travel Mart from June 7-10 2007. TAT plans to enlarge the event and make it one of the most significant shows on the trade calendar in Asia.

Phornsiri Manoharn, recently appointed TAT governor, said a bigger budget for this year’s event would ensure its success. “Last year the budget wasn’t big enough,” she admitted.

The mart will put special emphasis on the Mekong countries and will offer free space to NTOs from that region.

There is a target of 400 international buyers, 150 media and 500 sellers.

“Thailand has enough attractions to draw many buyers to this event,” said Phornsiri. “Among other things, we want to give buyers the chance to meet with smaller, high-end boutique hotels.

“We want to look at buyers from new markets, especially those that have never sold Thailand before.”

Another new show heading for Asia is the Games Convention Asia (GCA), the regional equivalent of the Games Convention in Leipzig, which carries the reputation of being the world’s largest games show.

GCA is expected to draw 150 exhibitors to Singapore in September – including big guns like Microsoft and Electronic Arts, the world’s largest games company.
