TUI establishes Dutch holiday airline
TUI is taking over troubled Dutch charter airline HollandExel.
The Dutch arm of the German travel giant is taking on 400 staff plus four Boeing 767s and renaming the airline Arkefly.
TUI said: “After going through financial difficulties the charter airline received a €3 million credit to allow it to continue flight operations.
“Arkefly is to become an integral part of the TUI Airline organisation and consequently will be able to draw on the existing Group resources. This will ensure lower operating costs.”
The new airline starts flying on April 21 mainly serving long-haul destinations. It is expected to carry about half of TUI’s Dutch passengers as well as operating for other travel companies.
TUI’s interests in Holland include tour operator brands Arke, Holland International and KRAS, 218 travel agencies and online platform lastminute.nl. TUI Nederland employs 2,200 staff.
