Two die in Ecuador earthquake
Two people were killed in Ecuador after a 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck near the capital Quito. At least eight others were wounded and rescue workers are still trying to free others left trapped by the tremor.
The international airport was closed briefly yesterday to assess any damage, but it has since re-opened.
The National Risk Control Agency said the earthquake triggered a landslide at a quarry in the Quito area that killed two people who worked there, adding that firemen were searching for three others.
However, the mayor of Quito claimed that only one person died in the landslide and that a four-year-old boy was killed in another part of the city when sacks of rice fell on him.
