UK holidaymakers seeks out more affordable Dubai
Dubai is losing none of its appeal as a holiday hotspot for UK travellers, according to latest figures from the tourism department which showed British visitor numbers in the second quarter were up 8% year on year to 185,000.
However, a growing number of visitors are seeking out the Emirate’s cheaper one to three-star properties to cut the cost of their holidays.
Ian Scott, UK & Ireland Director, Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, commented: "The second quarter of 2013 has seen an even higher growth in visitor figures from the UK than Q1.
"This increase is extremely encouraging particularly in view of our recently announced vision for 2020 with its ambitious targets.
"The growth in visitors staying in guest houses and 1 – 3 star accommodation can be attributed to our efforts to eliminate the misconception that the city is exclusively an expensive destination with the trade and consumer now having a greater understanding of its affordability."
TravelMole recently stayed at Dubai’s first four-star ‘beach’ hotel, the Ocean View, which is cheaper than the five-star-plus hotels that jostle for position on the seafront. Read our review here.
