UK passengers join first transatlantic cruise since pandemic
SeaDream Yacht Club’ SeaDream 1 is to make the first transatlantic passenger crossing since sailings were suspended due to Covid-19.
A total of 19 UK customers joined the 112-passenger ship when it called at Portsmouth, before it continued to Funchal in Madeira, from where it will cross the Atlantic to Barbados.
The UK Foreign Office continues to advise against all ocean-going cruises.
The UK passengers who boarded SeaDream 1 took Covid-19 PCR tests no more than 72 hours before boarding, during which they also took a rapid Covid test.
Portsmouth City Council said no passengers already onboard were allowed ashore in Portsmouth, and only the 19 ticketed passengers got on the ship.
The ship had previously taken on passengers in Oslo and Rotterdam.
