Union in new Heathrow threat
GMB to ballot members over Swissport’s restructuring plans
Unions are threatening to cause more chaos at Heathrow airport in a fresh dispute over jobs and pay.
According to reports in many of today’s newspapers, the Transport and General Workers’ Union is involved in talks with the firm Swissport, which provides baggage handlers and other ground workers for many carriers including Malaysian Airlines, Aer Lingus and Swiss.
The company is reportedly considering a restructuring move that would lead to job losses; the GMB is currently balloting 900 members for industrial action.
