Union warns of summer strikes at Scottish airports

Wednesday, 28 May, 2025 0

Travellers have been warned of possible strike action this summer at Scotland’s two largest airports.

Trade union Unite said it could significantly impact operations at Edinburgh and Glasgow Airports.

Union members were balloted and rejected ‘unacceptable’ pay offers.

The union says it won’t hesitate to ballot members for industrial action if Menzies Aviation doesn’t make a suitable offer.

Contractor Menzies Aviation said it is ‘committed to seeking a resolution’ and is set to continue discussions this week with union leaders.

The union says 97% of 300 balloted rejected an offer worth 4.25% at Glasgow Airport, while all Edinburgh Airport workers rejected a 4%  pay increase there.

“Summer strike action looms over Edinburgh and Glasgow airports because the pay offers on the table from Menzies Aviation aren’t good enough,” said Unite industrial officer Carrie Binnie.

“Menzies Aviation has the ability to improve its offers and they can easily resolve this pay dispute without any disruption.”
