United Airlines slashes Asia flight capacity
United Airlines has taken a hatchet to its remaining Asia flight schedules.
It extended flight cancellations to Greater China and also announced it will cut services to three more countries.
Capacity cuts will come in the form of suspended routes, service reductions and downgrading to smaller aircraft.
They will impact services to Singapore, Seoul, Tokyo and Osaka.
Tokyo Narita flights from Houston and Los Angeles are being suspended from March 8.
The Chicago route will be suspended through March 27, 2020 and will then resume but from Tokyo Haneda, which is an already planned move.
It is also cutting the daily Newark-Tokyo Narita route from daily to five times a week.
The San Francisco to Seoul route is being culled to just three flights a week from March 8 through April 24, 2020, and Singapore seat capacity is being halved during the same period.
As the US carrier with the most services to Asia, the Chicago based airline has most to lose due to the plunge in travel demand.
Rivals Delta Air Lines and American have also significantly cut trans-pacific capacity.
