Five people sustained injuries after a United Express flight skidded off an icy runway at Northern Maine Regional Airport in Presque Isle.
Injuries to a pilot and four passengers were minor and they were later released.
Flight 4933 from Newark, operated by CommutAir, veered off the runway and onto a grass embankment, the FAA said.
The 50-seater Embraer jet was carrying 28 passengers and three crew members.
The incident closed the airport.
Footage from the scene showed damaged landing gear which became wedged between the left engine and fuselage.
"United is committed to supporting CommutAir in its response to this incident. Our highest priority is the care and support of those on board," United said in a statement.
