United flight attendants sue Boeing over ‘ear-splitting’ smoke detector alarm

Wednesday, 12 Nov, 2018 0

Plane maker Boeing is being sued by two flight attendants over defective smoke detector alarms.

The two United Airlines cabin crew members claim the deafening alarm was so loud it burst their ear drums, causing bleeding.

Lee Sanders and Matthew Sodrok are suing Boeing Co, alleging permanent hearing loss.

The personal injury case related to a flight last year from Denver to Houston when an ‘ear-splitting ringing filled the aircraft’ even though there was no fire or smoke detected.

"This malfunction resulted in plaintiffs’ ears’ drums bursting and bleeding, and permanent hearing loss to plaintiffs’ ears," court papers said.

United Airlines is not being targeted in the legal action.

"Since United is not named in the suit and due to the pending litigation, we’ll have to refer you to Boeing for any comment," tha carrier said.
