Universal hires theme park veteran for new Beijing park
Universal Parks and Resorts has hired theme park veteran Tom Mehrmann to lead its upcoming multi-billion theme park in China.
Merhmann becomes president and general manager of Universal Beijing.
He brings experience of the local market from his most recent position as CEO of Ocean Park in Hong Kong.
He is also a former vice president of Knott’s Berry Farm.
"Tom will bring tremendous industry knowledge, business acumen and international experience to our project," Page Thompson, president and chief operating officer – International, Universal Parks & Resorts, said in a statement.
"He has exactly what we and our partners need to help create a world-class theme park entertainment destination."
Universal Beijing is slated to open in 2019 or 2020
The $3.3 billion project will feature two hotels in addition to the theme park.
