Universal UK theme park project confirmed
Theme park operator Universal finally confirmed the site of its upcoming Universal Studios theme park project.
It will be located just outside Bedford and is set to open in 2031.
It will become Universal’s first location in Europe and says it will create up to 28,000 jobs.
It touts a £50 billion economic boost by 2055.
PM Keir Starmer called it a ‘transformative investment.’
The 200-hectare site is a former brickworks near Bedford.
The theme park project will include a 500-room hotel, and a new train station will be constructed.
Universal hasn’t yet outlined what specific IP themed zones and attractions are planned.
Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy hailed the project as ‘fantastic news for tourism and for British families.’
The UK government says about 80% of the workforce will come from the local area.
“Today we closed the deal on a multi-billion-pound investment that will see Bedford home to one of the biggest entertainment parks in Europe, firmly putting the county on the global stage,” the PM said.
