Universal’s Wet n’ Wild water park will close for good on December 31.
The nation’s first water park opened in 1977, and makes way for Universal’s new water park, Volcano Bay which opens in the summer.
"As America’s first water park, Wet ‘n Wild has been the birthplace of numerous innovations that are now considered a common part of the water park experience."We’re grateful to our countless fans and team members for making Wet ‘n Wild such a special place for so very long," the company said in a blog post.
Wet n’ Wild was opened by Sea World founder George Millary, and taken over by Universal in 1998.
The water park attracted about 1.2 million visitors a year.
Volcano Bay will offer a wave pool, sand beaches, a lazy river, raft rides and body slides set over 30 acres.
It will also adopt wearable tech alerting guests to their designated ride times to cut down on long lines.
