Unromantic Brits just want to fly-and-flop

Beach holidays are still by far the most popular with Brits, according to the latest ABTA survey, which found that interest in city breaks, cultural trips and activity holidays lagged a long way behind.

Of those quizzed, 37% said they most looked forward to sunning themselves on the sand and only 17% chose a city break. A further 11% picked cultural trips and a paltry 8% said they most looked forward to romantic getaways. A rare few, just 4%, chose a sporty holiday.

Beach holidays were the most popular among the 35 to 44 age group, with 44% choosing this type of holiday above any other, while the 45-54 were the most romantic, with 13% of them choosing a mini-break with someone special.

The ABTA Consumer Trends survey also found that the majority of people prefer to holiday with family or their partner. Only 16% said they most enjoyed holidaying with friends and just 9% of men and 2% of women said they preferred to travel alone.
